Privacy
Last updated 8 July 2026.
This policy covers everything HoopsJunkie does, including the website at hoopsjunkie.io, the HoopsJunkie browser extension, and the HoopsJunkie mobile apps for iOS and Android. HoopsJunkie is run by Glenn McComb, an independent developer based in Melbourne, Australia.
The short version
We don't sell your data and we don't run advertising trackers. By default, the only data we collect is the bare minimum needed to serve you the page (your IP address in server logs) and privacy-respecting usage analytics that we built and host ourselves, with no cookies and nothing that can identify you. A few optional features (signing in, grading transactions, joining the mobile app beta) collect a little more, and each one is described below.
If anything ever changes about that (for example if we add advertising or more detailed analytics) we'll update this page and tell you about it on our socials before the change takes effect.
What we collect
Website (hoopsjunkie.io)
Usage analytics
We run our own self-hosted, privacy-respecting analytics, built into the site and stored in our own database. For each page view (and certain interactions, like running the draft simulator) it records the page visited, the site you came from (including any campaign tags), your country (derived from your IP address, which is never stored), your device and browser type, your screen size, and how long each page stays visible on your screen.
To count unique visitors it uses a short-lived anonymous identifier computed from connection details plus a secret that is deleted within 48 hours. It cannot identify you, it cannot follow you from one day to the next, it uses no cookies, and it stores nothing on your device. If you want to opt out entirely, set an hj_ignore value of "true" in your browser's local storage for hoopsjunkie.io and the site will not record your visits at all. The data is never shared with anyone else.
Accounts, fan grades and sign-ups
Grading a transaction stores your grade against an invisible, randomly generated account, with a functional session cookie in your browser so your vote counts once. This needs no email or name, and we cannot tell who you are from it.
If you choose to sign in, we store the email address you enter and send a one-time code to it; signing in simply links your grades to your account so they survive a new device or cleared cookies. If you join the mobile app beta list, we store the email address you submit so we can send you an invite. Emails are used only for those purposes, never for marketing, and are never shared.
Bot filtering
Traffic that looks automated (crawlers, scrapers, headless browsers) is flagged so it can be excluded from visitor counts. For flagged traffic only, we keep technical details such as the user agent string and network operator to help protect the site from abusive crawlers.
Server logs
When your browser fetches a page or makes an API call, the server records standard request data: IP address, user agent, the URL requested, and a timestamp. These logs are kept transiently by the hosting provider (typically a few days) for rate limiting, debugging, and abuse prevention. They are not shipped to any third-party log aggregation or analytics service.
Browser extension
- The extension only ever talks to the HoopsJunkie API. It does not read or transmit the contents of any other page you visit.
- When the extension fetches data from the API, the same server logs described above apply.
- The extension declares "no data collection" in its Firefox manifest, which is a binding statement to Mozilla.
Mobile apps (iOS & Android)
No analytics or tracking
The mobile apps contain no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting tools, and no third-party trackers of any kind. We don't collect a device advertising identifier and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
API requests
To show you scores and stats, the app fetches data from the HoopsJunkie API. When it does, the same server logs described above apply (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp), kept transiently for rate limiting, debugging, and abuse prevention.
On-device preferences
Settings such as your league (NBA or WNBA) and display preferences are saved on your device only. They never leave the device and are not sent to us or anyone else.
No accounts
There are no sign-ups or logins, and the app collects no names, email addresses, or other contact information.
What we don't collect
To be explicit about things that are common elsewhere but not here:
- No tracking cookies or advertising cookies.
- No Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar identifier-based trackers anywhere on the site.
- No names, phone numbers, or contact information of any kind, unless you choose to give us your email address (by signing in or joining the mobile app beta list).
- No data on your activity outside HoopsJunkie's own properties.
Where the data goes
Cloudflare serves the website and hosts the infrastructure it runs on. It operates as a data processor on our behalf and does not use HoopsJunkie data for its own purposes.
The HoopsJunkie API runs on a third-party hosting provider, where the server logs described above are stored. The analytics described above live in our own database, together with account, fan grade and beta sign-up data. The database is hosted by a third-party provider that also acts as a data processor on our behalf.
We do not sell, rent, or share HoopsJunkie data with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
Outbound links
The site footer links to Buy Me a Coffee. If you click through you're on buymeacoffee.com where their privacy policy applies, not this one. We only see minimal details about who has supported the project which supporters themselves provide.
Cookies and local storage
The website does not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics. There are three kinds of first-party storage on hoopsjunkie.io:
Your preferences
Settings you change on the site such as dark mode, timezone, how stats are presented, how the play-by-play is sorted, fantasy scoring toggles, and similar settings are saved in cookies or browser local storage so the site remembers them on your next visit. They live on your device but are never sent to any third party and don't identify you in any way.
Sign-in session
Grading a transaction or signing in sets a session cookie so your grades (and, if you signed in, your account) are remembered between visits. It is functional only: it is not used for tracking, and the analytics described above never read it.
Site infrastructure
Cloudflare may set a small number of functional cookies (e.g. for bot protection) to keep the site working. These don't identify you either.
The browser extension does not use cookies.
Children
HoopsJunkie isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone in that age range. Browsing the site collects nothing personal at all, and the optional account and beta sign-up features collect nothing beyond an email address. Having said that, HoopsJunkie is designed and developed in such a way that it is a safe space for humans of all ages.
International users
HoopsJunkie is operated from Australia. The website and the API that the mobile apps rely on are served via infrastructure located in the United States and other regions. By using the service, you understand that any limited data collected (server logs, aggregate analytics) may be processed in those regions.
Changes to this policy
If we change what's collected, for example if we add advertising, more detailed analytics, paid subscriptions, or a feature that needs data we don't currently collect, we'll update this page, change the "Last updated" date, and announce the change clearly on our social media profiles before it takes effect.
